Meet our Northmead Team

David Howells
David Howells, OAM
David is a founding member and director of APC Prosthetics and one of the most highly regarded Prosthetists in Australia, with over 30 years experience.  David has been appointed as the Prosthetist to the Paralympic Team since Sydney 2000, and was bestowed with an Order of Australia in 2006 in recognition of his contribution to amputees and the prosthetic profession.  He has presented at Australian and International Conferences, and has been lecturing at the UNSW lower extremity course for more than 15 years.  As Australia’s most experienced micro-processor knee practitioner, he now manages over 40 patients using this technology, since he fitted the country’s first C-Leg in 1999.  His passion is working with the Paralympic athletes and applying these cutting-edge practices to his everyday community clients.  
Richard Curby
Richard Curby
Richard is a founding member and director of APC Prosthetics and has over 30 years of experience in the profession. He has practised in both the public and private sectors in NSW and interstate, and is a highly regarded practitioner in both upper and lower limb prosthetic management. Richard is well experienced in the provision of upper limb myo electric prosthetics and has fitted a large number of the new iLimb hands to patients since its introduction to the market. In the lower limbs, he has fitted numerous micro processor knees and is always seeking ways to improve functionality. He is passionate about his patient care and enjoys working closely with both patients and family in seeking to achieve an optimal outcome. Richard has a special interest in medico legal work.
Cameron Ward

Cameron graduated from La Trobe University with a Bachelor Degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics in 2000.  He joined the clinical team at APC Prosthetics in the same year and has been an accredited honorary prosthetist at Westmead and Blacktown Hospitals for a number of years.  During the 2000 Sydney Paralympics Cameron was actively involved in managing many Medal winning track and field amputees.  At the beginning of 2006, Cameron played an integral role as lead prosthetist of the successful Interim trial running at Westmead Hospital.  He now specializes in early prosthetic management programs and has a special interest in the field of sports and specialized prostheses.  Cameron is particularly interested in increasing his involvement in pediatric prosthetic services.
Stefan Laux
Stefan Laux
Stefan qualified as a Prosthetist/ Orthotist in 1998 in Heidelberg, Germany.   He practiced in Germany for 5 years before joining APC Prosthetics in 2003. Since then he has aligned his qualifications by completing a Bachelor Degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics at La Trobe University.   He has been servicing the Amputee Clinics at Liverpool and Braeside Hospital for a number of years. Stefan has a special interest in the management of partial foot amputees and is the most experienced practitioner in fitting microprocessor controlled foot systems in Australia. He is a very strong believer in ongoing education and incorporating the latest technology to maximize outcomes for his clients.
Stephanie Lomax

Stephanie graduated from LaTrobe University with a Bachelor of Prosthetics and Orthotics (Honours) in 2006. Before joining the clinical team in 2009, Stephanie gained experience in both the acute and rehabilitation settings, working at Caulfield and The Alfred Hospitals, Melbourne. Stephanie has an interest in prosthetic research, having been involved in several projects and is currently undertaking a clinical and research role at APC Prosthetics.

Michael Storey

Michael graduated from La Trobe University with a Bachelor Degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics in 2009. Upon graduation he gained experience in paediatric orthotics while working at the Children's Hospital at Westmead before joining the clinical team at APC Prosthetics in 2010.
Cathy Howells
Cathy Howells
One of Australia’s most knowledgeable and experienced amputee physiotherapists, Cathy has had a special interest in amputee management for over 20 years.  She was the physiotherapist in charge of the amputee unit at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital from 1988 until 1994 and has practiced subsequently in the private sector as a consultant Physiotherapist since 1994.  She is one of the keynote lecturers in the annual lower extremity prosthetics course at UNSW and has presented numerous scientific papers at both Australian and International Conferences.  Cathy has developed and implemented the training program for all the microprocessor knee users at APC Prosthetics.  Her passion for optimal outcomes for all amputees has made her integral to the training and preparation of many Australian paralympians.

Michelle has been with APC Prosthetics since 2003. Michelle assists with Reception and Administrative duties including managing APC's website and coordinating our quarterly online newsletter.

David concluded his training as an Orthotic and Prosthetic Technician in 1995 in Ireland before moving to Australia in 2000 where he joined APC Prosthetics as the leading Prosthetic and Orthotic Technician.
Tim Holmes

APC Prosthetics welcomed Tim in August 2006. Along with on the job training, Tim has completed his course as a Prosthetic and Orthotic Technician to become a valued member of our team.

Dave joined APC Prosthetics in 2007 as a Prosthetic and Orthotic Technician after graduating from UNSW with a Bachelor of Science majoring in Biomechanics. Dave is currently studying for his Master's in Prosthetics & Orthotics at LaTrobe University and is looking forward to returning to APC in 2013.
